Learn How To Transform A Dresser Into An Entertainment Center

Wooden furniture is designed to be durable and long-lasting. If you have found a beautiful dresser that you absolutely love, but cannot find the matching bed or nightstand, do not leave the dresser at the store. You can turn the dresser into a beautiful entertainment center quickly and easily.

Use the following guide to learn how to transform the dresser within just a few hours.

Prepare the Interior of the Dresser

If you have purchased a four-drawer dresser, remove the second and third drawer from the dresser. On each side of the interior of the dresser, you should see tracks built into the dresser for the drawers to travel on as you pull them in and out of the dresser.

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws from the track so that you can remove the tracks from the drawers.

Prepare to Paint the Dresser

Remove the last two drawers from the dresser and lightly sand the entire surface of the wood and the front of the drawers with 80-grit sandpaper. You need to be sure that you create as smooth of a surface as you possibly can to ensure that the paint will be able to go onto the dresser evenly. Once you have sanded down the piece, you need to wipe away all of the sand that has collected on the surface of the dresser.

Paint the Dresser

Use a paintbrush to paint the entire surface of the dresser with a brightly-colored acrylic paint. Be sure that you paint the front of the drawers, as well. Allow the paint to dry for at least two hours and then apply a coat of polyurethane gel to protect the wood from being damaged.

Drill Holes in the Back

Use a drill to drill holes in the back of the dresser. Be sure that the holes that you drill are large enough to allow wires to pass through them. You will be placing a DVD player, a radio, gaming systems, and anything else you want in the two openings that will be left when you replace the top and bottom drawers in the dresser.

Once you have finished painting the dresser, you can replace the top and bottom drawers and use them for storage of DVDs, games, and CDs. The television can be sat on top of the dresser and all of your electronics can be organized in the open slots so that remotes an easily be used from across the room.
